Rs 19 lakh ‘like & earn’ fraud: Cops suspect hundreds targeted

MUMBAI: The cyber crime police probing a Rs 19 lakh ‘like and earn’ task fraud case have now found that the money sent by the complainant to around a dozen bank accounts was again transferred to over 800 bank accounts. Police suspect these 800 account holders who received between Rs 150 to Rs 1,000 could also be victims of the task fraud.

Police said the accused could have lured them by initially paying money for liking videos, giving rating to hotels on websites and to movies.
Last month, the complainant, who works with a consultancy services company, lodged an FIR with the West Region Cyber crime police station of the crime branch against the accused after she was duped of Rs 19 lakh. The accused were booked for cheating and forgery under IPC sections and identity theft under the IT Act.
