The Godfather fears AI, leaves Google to speak freely about it

Geoffrey Hinton, one of the “Godfathers of AI” and co-winner of the 2018 Turing Award, has recently expressed regret for his AI-related work. Hinton, who spent over a decade at Google, left the company to freely speak out about the risks of AI. His ground-breaking work led to the creation of technologies such as ChatGPT and Google Bard.

Hinton in an interview to New York Times expressed regrets for his AI-related work. “I console myself with the normal excuse: If I hadn’t done it, somebody else would have,” he said adding that it is hard to see how one can prevent the bad actors from using it for bad things.
