India’s next wave of subscriber adds to be driven by 5G, upgradation of 2G users: Nokia

NEW DELHI: The major uptake of fifth-generation or 5G networks in India will start from the second half of this year (H2 2023) onwards, with 5G applications and services expected to drive data growth, according to Finnish telecom gear maker Nokia.

4G subscriber additions have started stabilising after about five years of “solid growth” in India, said Nokia in its Mobile Broadband Index (MBiT) 2022 report released Thursday. The next wave of subscriber additions will be on the back of 5G, and 2G subscribers (approx. 350 million) migrating to 5G/4G.
