LG shows off a smartphone telephoto camera module with true zoom

Even though LG said goodbye to the smartphone market, it still makes components for smartphones and has built a new camera module for smartphones – a telephoto one with true zoom. The periscope-style telephoto camera module offers a 4-9 times zoom range, allowing smartphones to capture zoomed-in shots without compromising on the details while reducing the size of the bump and moving parts within the module.

The current telephoto cameras are fixed zoom modules that allow zooming in only at a specific magnification level, while at other levels, it uses digital zoom.

However, LG Innotek has been said to have developed a zoom actuator component for moving lenses within all the sections between the allowed range, similar to how zoom lenses work in DSLR or mirrorless cameras.
