Microsoft is bringing a ‘tablet-optimised’ taskbar to Windows 11

Microsoft is bringing back its special taskbar for tablets in the latest Windows 11 preview. First launched in February with other features, the tablet-friendly taskbar was later removed for the purpose of further development. Now, the feature is back and will arrive as part of an update for Windows Insiders in the developer channel, the Redmond-based tech giant announced in a blogpost. Do note that the company plans to monitor the feedback on the feature from the Insiders before deciding to go for a wider rollout.

Microsoft calls the feature the tablet-optimised taskbar. A point worth noting is that the feature will only be available on devices that can be used as tablets like the 2-in-1 hybrids and not on the other regular laptops or PCs.

Whenever users decide to use their 2-in-2 hybrid PCs as a tablet and disconnect or fold back the device keyboard, the tablet-optimised taskbar will get activated.
