Why Apple may face a charger ‘problem’ in India
A report by The Times of India has revealed that the government of India is mulling over the possibility of having a single charger for most devices. The report says that the government wants to assess the “possibility of ending the redundancy of having multiple chargers in every household.” If the move does go through then it could be a problem for Apple as the ‘common’ charger could be the Type-C port, which isn’t offered in the iPhone.
For years, Apple has given the lightning port in iPhones, even though almost all Android phones these days come with a Type-C port. In fact, even a lot of laptops, true wireless earbuds also feature a Type-C port, which means that a common charger can work for them. Not for Apple though as the Cupertino-based tech giant offers lightning port in iPhones, AirPods and the entry-level iPad. The Type-C port comes with certain models of iPads and the MacBook Pro and Air.
