Jio trials voice and messaging over 5GNR using homegrown 5G RAN, Core

NEW DELHI: Reliance Jio Friday said it has trialed Voice and Messaging over 5GNR (VoNR) using its indigenous 5G RAN and Core solution, as well as own IMC Converged TAS (CTAS) and HSS/UDM combination solution.

“After having introducing 4G VoLTE in India back in 2016, this trial marks a significant leap forward for Voice and Messaging over 5G – which is trialed in India for the 1st time by Jio. This trial has been performed using off the shelf smart phones. A crucial aspect of interworking of 5G VoNR with 4G VoLTE and vice versa was also performed in the trial,” Aayush Bhatnagar, SVP, Reliance Jio, said in a Linkedin post today.
