Oppo to slash upto 20% of its workforce in software and device teams following merger with OnePlus: Bloomberg News

Chinese smartphone maker Oppo is slashing down about 20% of its workforce in software and device teams after it merged operations with premium smartphone brand OnePlus, Bloomberg News reported Thursday. The development comes amid chip shortages and Covid-led economic shocks that have grappled the industry.

The job cuts will affect important units involved in customizing Oppo’s in-house developed Android skin, ColorOS, as well as, an Internet of Things (IoT) division that develops everything from smartwatches and earbuds, insider sources told Bloomberg, asking not to be named.
