Apple stops signing iOS 14.7, what it means for iPhone users
Apple released the iOS 14.7.1 software update to iPhones last month. The update plugged in a security hole that is said to have been exploited by hackers. Following the release, the company has stopped signing iOS 14.7. This means that iPhone users who have already updated their device to iOs 14.7.1 will not be able to downgrade to iOS 14.7.
Apple often ends signing legacy code after release of new iOS builds. The move is aimed to safeguard users from nefarious actors to exploit the discovered vulnerabilities. It also allows Apple to keep more devices on the latest iOS versions.
As mentioned earlier, iOS 14.7.1 was released in July this year. Along with fixing the security vulnerability, the update also fixed a bug that prevented iPhones with Touch ID from unlocking an Apple Watch.
