Mechanical keyboards are go-to peripherals that any typist, gamer or even general computer enthusiasts will swear by. But what are mechanical keyboards and how are they different from your average desktop keyboards? What are the benefits they offer and more importantly, why are they more expensive? Let’s begin by understanding the two types of desktop keyboards.

Membrane Keyboards

The typical keyboard that you probably used in your school’s IT lab, at your office desktop or even the default keyboard that came with your assembled computer is called a membrane keyboard. Membrane keyboards are connected by a mesh-like layer of wires underneath the keys we type on. These kinds of keyboards are also called rubber-dome keyboards.
