Telegram updates app to allow chat history migration amid WhatsApp exodus

New Delhi: Telegram has added a functionality to import individual and group chat history from WhatsApp and other messaging apps, the end-to-end encrypted messaging service said in a blogpost on Thursday.

Over 100 million new users joined Telegram in January, after WhatsApp announced changes to its privacy policy to share extensive user metadata and business conversations with its parent Facebook Inc.

To move a chat from WhatsApp on iOS, open the Contact Info or Group Info page in WhatsApp, tap Export Chat, then choose Telegram in the Share menu. On Android, open a WhatsApp chat, tap ⋮ > More > Export Chat, then choose Telegram in the Share menu.
