State-run telcos need to source gear as per GFR rules: Govt

New Delhi: State-run telcos will need to source network equipment as per the amended general financial rules (GFR) that impose restrictions on vendors from countries that share land border with India, Minister of State for Communications Sanjay Dhotre said in the Rajya Sabha Tuesday.

In response to a question that if the telecom ministry plans to allow the use of Chinese equipment for 5G, Dhotre said 5G technology in telecom networks has not yet started.

“The focus is currently on trials of India-specific 5G applications and use cases,” Dhotre said.
