More stringent checks on spam SMSes under new system: Trai

The telecom regulator has informed the Delhi High Court that 86,766 principal entities, 1.46 lakh SMS headers and 1.5 lakh content templates have been onboarded to the new blockchain-enabled platform meant to curb spam SMS traffic on access networks.

In comparison to 9 lakh headers which send commercial SMS, it must not be inferred that 1.46 lakh headers registered on the new distributor ledger technology (DLT) platform is too low, the telecom regulatory authority of India (trai) said in its progress report dated August 27, filed before the court in the ongoing lawsuit with Paytm’s parent One97 Communications Ltd.

This is because of the monitoring and assignment of headers by access providers that headers are being used in a more frugal manner.
