Telecom subscriber base dips in March-April: Ind-Ra
NEW DELHI: The Indian telecom industry witnessed a sharp month-on-month decline during the March-April period, led by Vodafone Idea and Bharti Airtel, a finding by market research agency Ind-Ra on Wednesday said.
The subscribers base declined month-on-month by 2.8 million and 8.2 million in March and April 2020, respectively.
The decline which was ‘more than offset’ the growth in the subscribers base of Reliance Jio Infocomm (RJio), is attributable to the lockdown imposed in the wake of the Covid-19 outbreak towards March-end and continued for the full month of April 2020, the firm in a statement said.
The research agency believes that the addition in the subscriber base would remain under pressure in the coming months due to COVID-19.
