Ericsson bags 5G RAN deployment deal from Omantel

Swedish telecoms gear maker Ericsson said it has bagged a 5G RAN deployment deal from Oman-based telecom carrier Omantel.

Under the multi-year partnership, Ericsson will deploy its hardware and software products and solutions from the Ericsson Radio System portfolio, including Advanced Antenna Systems and 3GPP standards-based 5G New Radio (NR).

Ericsson said its 5G technology will enable Omantel to address growing data traffic demands and will enable it to enhance mobile broadband experiences. Subscribers will be able to enjoy leading data speeds across use cases like streaming, downloading, gaming, infotainment, and interactivity said, Ericsson.

The deployment will further enable Omantel to explore and build new business models and use cases, including Internet of Things (IoT) applications.

“The deployment of 5G will enable Oman to be at the forefront of digitalization, helping us transform both industry and infrastructure and turn the next generation of possibilities into reality,” said Eng. Samy Ahmed Al Ghassany, Chief Operating Officer, Omantel.

“We are delighted to further strengthen our relationship with Omantel to bring the best possible commercial 5G experience to their customers,” said Fadi Pharaon, President of Ericsson Middle East and Africa

Pharaon added that many 5G user and industrial use cases would emerge through the deployment of 5G technology such as Fixed Wireless Access (FWA).
