Trai recommends restructuring of BARC India with an aim to improve credibility, transparency

Reacting to several concerns raised by stakeholders relating to neutrality and reliability of the existing rating system, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) on Tuesday issued a set of recommendations for India’s sole TV Viewership measurement agency, BARC India, a joint industry body of the broadcasters, advertisers and the advertising agencies.

Trai said that the recommendations are culmination of a 15 month consultation process to review the television audience measurement and rating system in India.

The recommendations include structural reforms to mitigate the potential risk of conflict of interest, improve credibility and transparency, and instil confidence of all stakeholders in the TRP measurement system.
