Coronavirus: YouTube videos won’t play in high quality on your smartphones
Last week, video streaming platform YouTube reduced the default video quality to standard definition (SD) across all countries with an option to change it back to high definition (HD).
However, it seems that now the Google-owned platform has taken away that option. This is because users can select a maximum resolution of 480p for the videos. In other words, YouTube has now restricted the maximum video streaming quality. This was first spotted by XDA Developers for Android users, but Times of India-Gadgets Now can confirm the same for iPhone users too.
Even the videos that are uploaded in 4K resolutions and were playable in that resolution, can also be streamed up to 480p resolution right now.
Videos on desktop, however, can be streamed in up to 4K resolution, but it is quite likely that we may see a restriction there too in the coming weeks.
