e-waste recycling with zero waste concept

Huge generation of mobile phone batteries, its rudimentary disposal, improper collection system as well as the lack of cost-effective processing technology have resulted in loss of valuables encapsulated in them. For recovery of cobalt and other valuable metals from the black powder and other constituents of lithium ion Batteries (LIBs), National Metallurgical Laboratory (NML), Jamshedpur, has developed a novel process based on zero waste concept.

To boost cooperation in the sector of e-waste recycling, NML signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for technology transfer with Unique India Private Limited, Firozabad, for the extraction of cobalt metal and salt from the black powder of lithium batteries.
