Twitter says it recorded 11 lakh tweets on Union Budget 2020

Microblogging platform Twitter says that more than 11 lakh tweets related to Union Budget were made between January 30 and February 3 this year. #UnionBudget2020 was a much used hashtag among Twitterati in India who used the social media platform to post their views on the Budget.
The speech of Finance Minister of India, Nirmala Sithraman was live streamed on the platform and through a live carousel, the platform provided the updates during the presentation of the Union Budget.
During the Budget presentation for the 2020-21 fiscal year, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman proposed a new scheme to boost domestic manufacturing of mobile phones, electronic equipment and semiconductor packaging. The new policy aims to make India a part of the global manufacturing chain and boost employment opportunities. Like every year, some appliances have become cheaper while some have become costlier. The government has increased import duties on components for home appliances which may lead to a marginal hike in their prices. The duty on refrigerator and AC compressors has been increased to 12.5% from 10%, and that on small motors to 10% from 7.5%.
