SC orders restoration of internet for essential services in Kashmir, asks for review of all restrictions in a week

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court, today, ordered the restoration of internet for all essential services and directed that the orders will have to be reviewed by the J&K administration within a week.

“Internet to be restored in Kashmir for all essential services,” the Supreme Court said in its verdict on a batch of pleas including that of Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad challenging the restrictions imposed in Kashmir following abrogation of provisions of Article 370.

The apex court asked the government to publish all the orders passed regarding the internet clampdown.

The Supreme Court on Friday ruled that access to Internet a fundamental right and must be restricted as per constitutionally allowed parameters. Hence, any restrictions on internet must be proportionate and not irrational.
