‘Crores overdue for underground OFC cables’

Vadodara: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) may be losing revenue amounting to crores of rupees due to the callous attitude of its officials. It has come to light that large sums of money were not collected by ward offices towards optic fibre cables (OFC) laid in their areas.

The VMC collects charge from telecom companies and internet service providers whenever they lay underground cables. They also must pay an annual charge based on the length of the cable they have laid underground.

Details collected by the VMC opposition reveal that the VMC had not been collecting this amount regularly. The pending dues from telecom companies or those providing OFC network and towers to them run into over Rs five crore only for four wards in the city.
