International internet bandwidth leads to 10% trade growth for India: Report

The international internet bandwidth has increased by 10%, leading to a nearly $7 billion increase in the total volume of goods trade for India, according to a study by think tank Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER) in association withInternet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI).

The report, titled “Economic Implications of Cross-Border Data Flows”, has found that between 2016-17 and 2017-18, approximately 12% of India’s total trade volumewas estimated to have been driven by cross-border data flows.

Bhanupreet Singh, Vice President, IAMAI, said the discussion so far has focused on national security and allied issues, but an assessment from an economic perspective would also add perspective.
