Oppo may soon launch its own smartphone chip

Just days after launching its latest version of ColorOS, Chinese handset maker Oppo is now reportedly working on its own smartphone processor, which is rumoured to be called the Oppo M1. Till now, Oppo has used both MediaTek as well as Qualcomm SoCs for its smartphones.
According to a report by LetsGoDigital, a trademark application filed by Guangdong Oppo Mobile Telecommunications has been discovered. This application was reportedly submitted to the EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office). The description of trademark states, “Chips [integrated circuits]; Semiconductor chips; Computer chips; Multiprocessor chips; Electronic chips for the manufacture of integrated circuits; Biochips; Smartphones; Cell phones; Screens.”
As per the report, even though Oppo has not yet confirmed about any such development, however, it has hired “several former engineers from Spreadtrum and MediaTek,” claims the report. There is no information on how close the Chinese smartphone company is to launch its own processor and whether or not we’ll see the rumoured processor powering other handsets as well. If this happens to be true, it is quite likely that the Oppo M1 processor comes in future Realme — the company that was launched as Oppo’s sub-brand — handsets as well.
