Identifying India-specific 5G use cases critical: Trai’s Sharma
NEW DELHI: The identification of relevant fifth-generation or 5G use cases is essential as the newer technology is poised to solve many problems, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) chairman Ram Sewak Sharma Monday said.
“With high thruput and low-latency, 5G can solve many problems. The job is to identify India-specific use cases is extremely important,” Sharma said and added that the regulator has already recommended pricing.
Sharma was speaking at the third edition of the India Mobile Congress 2019, organised by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) in New Delhi.
Financially-stressed telcos are grappling with challenges to kickstart next-generation technology trials while the Narendra Modi government wanted the industry to start commercial 5G deployments from 2020.
