Reliance Jio yet to file its tariff plans with Trai

Kolkata: Reliance Jio Infocomm is yet to file its new tariff plan of levying interconnect usage charges (IUC) on voice calls to non-Jio mobile numbers, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) secretary Sunil Gupta said, adding that the sector regulator would intervene only in the event of any compliance issues.
Gupta told ET that Jio needs to inform the sector regulator “within seven working days from the date of implementation of its new tariff”.
Jio on Thursday started charging for voice calls made to subscribers of other telcos to account for the termination charges it pays rivals, including Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea, a move that experts believe could end the fierce price wars plaguing the telecom industry f and boost telco revenues. “We will examine Jio’s new tariff plan once they submit it, and will intervene in the matter only if there are any compliance issues at all,” the Trai secretary said.
