Xiaomi to secure Mi user accounts with two-factor authentication

Chinese smartphone brand Xiaomi will roll out two-factor authentication for all Mi user accounts. With this feature, users will be notified about “other connected devices” when an existing Mi account holder tries to log-in to a new Xiaomi device. The user will be prompted even if there is a change of location from where the Mi account has been registered. As part of the two-factor authentication process, users will have to authorise the new log-in by allowing this from another connected device. Users can also use same codes of both the devices to authorise the sign-in, according to a report by XDA Developers. The feature is coming for MIUI 10 users.
Meanwhile, Xiaomi is already working on Android Q version but is still to give details on what to expect. The Android Q based MIUI is already available in closed beta to select users. Android Q on the Xiaomi Mi 9 continues to be based on MIUI 10. In the China ROM, users will get several pre-installed Xiaomi apps but then most of them are made for Chinese users.
