Asus Chairman says India is its home market; plans R&D center

NEW DELHI: Taiwanese handset maker Asus has made India its top priority to grow its smartphones business globally and is now aiming to get into the top three players in the next 3 years. It is also evaluating the possibility of opening a full-fledged research and development center in India.

“We aspire to become a top technology brand in India…we are not immediately trying to get large volumes but want to be among top 3 players in India,” chairman Jonney Shih told ET.

“We treat the Indian market as our home market and are backing up India in terms of addressing consumers’ need and providing support,” he said, adding that India is an important candidate to have our next R&D center
