It’s official, Apple AirPower is dead

California: Apple’s AirPower wireless charging mat is not happening, ever. The company announced it has cancelled the project because it could not achieve what it had planned in terms of the hardware.

First announced back in 2017, the AirPower never made it to the store shelves. Now, Apple’s senior VP of Hardware Engineering Dan Riccio said in an e-mailed statement to TechCrunch that AirPower will not achieve Apple’s high standard, and hence, the project has been cancelled.

AirPower’s delay is said to be related to engineering problems including overheating due to the charging coils in close proximity to one another.
