BSNL rings in payday for 1.7L staffers, after a fortnight’s delay
Nagpur: After a fortnight’s wait, over 1.70 lakh staffers of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) across the country have finally got their salaries for the month of February.
An unprecedented liquidity crunch had led to defaults in payment of salaries in the state-owned telecom company. TOI had reported the matter last week, following which BSNL’s CMD Anupam Shrivastava had announced the salaries will be paid before Holi.
Sources said the funds were released on Saturday. The money came from BSNL’s own accruals and the department of telecommunications (DoT) also cleared part of dues it owned to the company. The receipts have increased in the month of March and the company is hopeful to pay salaries for the current month in time, a source said.
