Telcos told to act against ‘obscene’ messages

Following complaints of abusive messages received by journalists on their mobile phones, the Department of Telecom has asked operators to take action against subscribers sending “obscene and vulgar” messages.

“It has been brought to notice than many noted journalists have been subjected to obscene and vulgar messages on their phones,” the letter dated February 19, sent to all operators, said. It added, “Take immediate action against the customers/subscribers of your network for sending such messages… as it is a violation of customer declaration in customer application form.”
