6 GHz mid-band spectrum to enable effective expansion of 5G networks in India: COAI

NEW DELHI: The spectrum shortage for effectively expanding fifth-generation or 5G mobile networks in India will be fulfilled by the crucial 6 GHz frequency band, according to an industry association.

“Unfortunately in the last auction, we could get only 800 megahertz which means we have a deficiency of 1200 megahertz. If there has to be an effective rollout of 5G in the mid-band, the spectrum requirement will be met fully by taking 1200 megahertz from the 6 gigahertz range and giving it to IMT (mobility services),” SP Kochhar, Director-General, Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), told ETTelecom in an interview.
