5G subscriptions in India may touch 700 million by 2028: Report

India appears to be embracing 5G mobile technology fast. According to a new report, 5G subscriptions in the country reached about 10 million by the end of 2022 and are estimated to grow to around 700 million by the end of 2028. According to the Ericsson Mobility Report, with this the share of 5G subscriptions in the country will cross 50%, accounting for a total 57 per cent of mobile subscriptions in the country. Globally, 5G subscriptions are rising in every region and forecast to reach 1.5 billion by the end of 2023.

Data consumption to more than double

The report further said that the average data traffic per smartphone is likely to go up by almost double.
