5G smartphone shipments in India crossed 3 million units in 2020: IDC
NEW DELHI: 5G smartphone shipments in 2020 crossed 3 million units in 2020 in India, driven by the launch of aggressively priced smartphones by Chinese OEMs such as the Xiaomi Mi10i at <$250 point, according to the International Data Corporation’s (IDC) Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker.
This is when the India smartphone market declined 1.7% on-year to ship 150 million units in 2020, according to the market tracker.
"As more 5G devices enter in 2021, the ASP for smartphones is expected to rise. IDC expects vendors to launch 5G devices at multiple price points backed by aggressive promotions, as 5G currently remains a novelty rather than a necessity to most," said Upasana Joshi, Associate Research Manager, Client Devices, IDC India.
