5G rollout may be delayed as Telcos spar with TSDSI
NEW DELHI: Private telecom operators have locked horns with India’s telecom standards body over local standards for 5G, a development that may delay the next-generation technology’s rollout in India. The Telecommunications Standards Development Society, India (TSDSI) is pushing for modifications in the 5G standard.
Indian carriers, and the European Union’s standards body, are however opposing the move to include a network capability called large cell low mobility (LMLC) in the 5G standard. They have also sought harmonisation of 5G standards, which are still at formulation stage globally.
The industry has questioned the methodology being adopted by the standards body for a local LMLC standard.
