5G massive-MIMO market to grow rapidly in 2020, driven by high-capacity product demands: Report

NEW DELHI: The number of 5G ma-MIMO radio products in the market has increased more than double-fold and reached over 70 products in 2019. Additionally, through the third quarter of 2020, the industry’s major five RAN vendors will offer a total of 127 products supporting LTE, 5G, or both, a GlobalData report said on Wednesday, as mobile operators across the globe ramp up their efforts to deploy the next-gen 5G technology.

The massive MIMO (ma-MIMO) technology uses radios with large antenna arrays to increase the performance of the mobile access networks and is a vital technology for delivering 5G services.

Ed Gubbins, Principal Analyst for GlobalData, explained that the demand for massive-MIMO gear among mobile operators globally is being driven by increasing demand for mobile data demands in the face of limited available spectrum.
