5G: India should speed up fibre deployment, says Cisco’s global executive
NEW DELHI: Government’s intervention is required to fast-track the fibre deployment since India is lagging in fibre-based telecom infrastructure with the fifth-generation or 5G commercial roll outs is on the cards, a senior US-based executive told ETT.
“For the 5G roll out, optic fibre is essential for large-scale deployment. India currently lags behind the global average when it comes to fiber-connected infrastructure,” Anand Oswal, Senior Vice President, Engineering at Cisco said.
Telecom industry too have echoed similar concern.
The role of fibre-based network hold significance since the base transceiver stations (BTS) require fibre-driven backhaul in the wake of next generation of network that seeks to offer low-latency communications.
