5G crosses 4,00,000 site mark in under 15 months
New Delhi: India’s has become the fastest 5G rollout in the world after 5G deployments crossed the 4 lakh mark with Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel adding 2,000 base tower stations (BTSs) a week, officials aware of the development said.
“The 4-lakh mark has been achieved in less than 15 months of the 5G launch as both telcos have been aggressively rolling out the network,” an official told ET.
Airtel and Jio have been submitting data around their 5G rollouts on a weekly basis to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT).
But executives in the industry said that despite 5G services reaching the majority of cities, revenue from the latest telecom technology is yet to roll in. The telcos are still offering 5G free of cost to consumers. So far, over 100 million consumers have started using 5G.
