36 Ola, Uber drivers found with no licence in airport crackdown

MUMBAI: The state transport department recently conducted a week-long drive at Mumbai airport and found 990 Uber and Ola cabs that were in breach of the Motor Vehicles Act. The offences included serious ones such as not having a driver’s license or a mandatory badge for plying a taxi.

It’s worth noting that Maharashtra has no specific laws to govern app-based taxi aggregators, and the state government is yet to act on the Khatua Committee report, which suggests fare regulations and measures to ensure passenger safety, among other things.

Special squads from Regional Transport Offices (RTO) carried out the checks at the airport after receiving several complaints about cancellations by drivers and disparities between the scheduled and actual pick-up times.
