177 employees of cash-strapped BSNL opt for VRS

Bareilly: More than half of the BSNL manpower comprising 177 employees of different sections in Bareilly got retirement under voluntary retirement scheme (VRS) offered by the national telecom on Friday. After mass retirement, according to BSNL officials, landline consumer availing telephone and broadband services could face difficulties for a temporary period since only a few linemen were left in the department to fix snapped cable.

District secretary of national federation of telecom employees (NFTE) Ratipal Singh said that among 177 BSNL employees got retired on Friday, 48 were associated with their federation.
