16 operators investing in VoNR tech; 42 devices, 40 5G chipsets now support VoNR: GSA

NEW DELHI: 16 operators are investing in Voice over New Radio (VoNR) either directly or indirectly while 42 devices and 40 5G chipsets from four vendors support VoNR technology, according to a new report by the Global mobile Suppliers Association (GSA).

The 5G non-standalone (NSA) networks provided voice services with the 2G/3G and LTE infrastructures. However, 5G standalone (SA) networks require a new approach considering the absence of a legacy infrastructure to fall back on. VoNR has been designed to tackle this issue.
