WiFi PDO

Trai has issued its recommendations on proliferation of broadband through public WiFi. Trai has recommended amendment to the ISP licenses and an express clarification with regard to sharing of active WiFi infrastructure, ie access point and backhaul infrastructure from DoT. The use of unlicensed spectrum has been one of the key enabling factors in the growth and widespread adoption of the WiFi standard. This would lead to introduction of a number of new small time players in WiFi provisioning space who will be able to boost the broadband availability to the masses. Besides, due to this, there is likely to be huge explosion of backhaul requirements and TSPs are expected to hugely benefit out of this.
