Oppo overtakes Apple to become second largest smartphone vendor in India by value

Oppo Mobiles said that it has displaced Apple to become the No. 2 smartphone brand in India with 8% value market share in August 2016 as per GFK data.

The Chinese handset company, as per GFK, clocked a growth of 16% in comparison to the previous month.

Apple had 6.3% sales value share in the month, followed by Reliance’s Lyf and Micromax with 6.1% and 5.4% shares, respectively

South Korean brand Samsung still leads the market with 46.9% value market share in August 2016.

“India is a priority market for us. We have caught the trend that users, especially young generations like taking photos and selfies by phones. That’s why we have invested a lot in offering the consumers high quality camera phones with a strong focus on front camera. Going forward we will continue investing in photography technology, design and offering the best consumer experience,” Sky Li, OPPO Global VP, MD of International Mobile Business and President of OPPO India, said in a statement.

Oppo said that its fast growth can be attributed to the aggressive expansion of offline channel strategy and successful marketing campaigns targeted towards reaching out the young consumers.

In the Indian market, OPPO has been expanding its offline presence by targeting 35,000 point of sales and 180 after sales service centres for giving its consumers a better experience.

The company, which launched its latest smartphone Oppo F1 in August, said that it will come up with special offers on October 6.
