Internet Shutdown in India

A recent report by Indian Council for Research onInternational Economic Relations (ICRIER) on Economic Impact of Internet Shutdowns in India shows that between 2012 to 2017, India noticed 16,315 hours of Internet blackout which cost the economy approximately $3.04 billion. Banking, Education and Healthcare sector have noticed low impact, whereas sectors like e-Commerce, Freelancing, Tourism, IT services and Press & News Media were badly impacted by these Internet shutdowns. e-Commerce and Freelancing impacted the most.
