Govt bans 24 Islamic, Pakistani TV channels in Bandipora

The district administration Bandipora banned 34 Islamic and Pakistani channels on Tuesday, citing that transmission of these channels creates law and order problems in the district.

In an order issued by district magistrate Bandipora, government has asked all the cable operators of the district to immediately stop downlinking of these 24 channels.

“It has been reported that cable operators within the jurisdiction of district Bandipora are telecasting and transmitting various programmes which create law and order problems in the district. Downlinking these channels is a clear violation of the sub-rule 6 of the cable TV rules under programme code,” reads the order no. DCB/VC/2018-19/2671-89 dated 26-02-2019.

The order further reads that “to prevent the cable operators of the district from broadcasting these TV channels it is necessary to invoke necessary provisions of law.”
