Smartphone shipments in India fall 9% to 152 million units in 2022; Samsung leads in Q4: Counterpoint
NEW DELHI: Smartphone shipments in India declined strongly at 9% year-over-year to 152 million units in 2022, even as the premium segment continued to rise and captured a double-digit market share, according to the latest report by Counterpoint Research.
The research firm attributed the overall year-over-year decline, the second ever in India’s smartphone market, to the fall in entry-level and budget segments which faced supply constraints at the beginning of the year and then witnessed a lower demand throughout the year.
In the Q4 of 2022, Samsung took the top spot with a 20% market share (versus 16% in Q4 2021), followed by Vivo with a 19% share. Xiaomi slipped to the third rank with an 18% share.
