Donald Trump raises secure 5G networks in meeting with PM Modi

NEW DELHI: US President Donald Trump, on Tuesday, said that New Delhi and Washington held talks on the subject a secure 5G network.

At a special press briefing with Indian industrialists at the US embassy in New Delhi, Trump said, “During our visit we discussed the importance of a secure 5G wireless network & the need for this emerging technology to be a tool for freedom, progress, prosperity, not to do anything with where it could be even conceived as a conduit for suppression and censorship.”

The US has alleged in the past that Chinese telecom gear vendors Huawei and ZTE are a security threat and are involved in snooping for the Chinese government. US and its allies including Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Taiwan have already banned the two companies from participating in 5G networks while UK had allowed them to sell non-core items.
