AMD’s infotainment systems in Tesla cars can be used to bypass paid services: Report

Tesla has adopted AMD-based infotainment systems for all recent car models. According to a report by Bleeping Computers, researchers from the Technical University of Berlin have developed a method to jailbreak these infotainment systems. The research team was also able to make these systems run any software of their choosing.

The report mentions that this hack also allowed the researchers to extract the unique hardware-bound RSA key. This key is used by Tesla cars for authentication in its service network. Moreover, researchers were also able to use this key for voltage glitching to activate software-locked features such as seat heating and ‘Acceleration Boost’ that Tesla car owners usually have to pay for.
