Data theft: Pune DoT staffer who sold personal info held

MUMBAI: The city crime branch on Monday arrested a staffer from the department of telecom’s (DoT) Pune office for allegedly selling confidential personal information for monetary consideration. Sujit Atmaram Nangre (27), a data entry operator, is the seventh accused to be arrested in the data theft scam.

Police last month arrested brothers Nikhil and Rahul Yelgatti who had created two websites-www.fonivotech.com and Tracenow.com- through which they sold confidential details of people living in Maharashtra, Delhi and Gujarat. Among the information the Yelgattis stole and sold to marketing agencies and bank loan recovery agents were names and addresses of people, their Aadhaar numbers and details of their family members.
