WiFi for 30,000 GPs

In a meeting of the Telecom Commission held on December 14, 2016, it has been decided to provide opex support (net of revenue) of 100 pc in Y1, 75 pc in Y2, and 50 pc in Y3, to BSNL for providing WiFi services. However, the commission has decided that the services to the end-users be charged. It has also allowed payment to BSNL at Rs 48,180 per year, instead of Rs 96,360, for enhancement of bandwidth from 2 Mbps to 10 Mbps.
