Why Delay! ASG says MTC is Rs 200 cr a day gain for telcos

On August 5, 2016 Trai issued a consultation paper titled as “Review of Interconnect Usage Charges” (IUC). About 13 months have passed since then but Trai has not yet come out with a decision so far. As a result of this delay, every day the mobile consumers of the country have to bear a substantial hidden charge of 14 paisa per minute in the form of Mobile Termination Chares (MTC) for the calls they make to another mobile consumer. Keeping in mind the volumes, every paisa turns into huge money for the operators.
